About Our Mission
Be Local Broome is a brand new, buy local program.
Our mission is to support a sustainable, local economy in Broome County, and ultimately create community wealth. We offer:
● memberships both for individuals and for local, independent businesses
● incentivize buying local
● provide marketing tools to local business owners
● foster a sense of community around our local economy
● educate the public on why exactly buying local is so important
We are guided by our member-driven advisory board. The board is comprised of between 5 and 11 members. At this time, any new member who is interested in getting more involved with the program is encouraged to consider joining the advisory board.
About Our History
Be Local Broome began operations in August 2018 as a program of our parent nonprofit, the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition (BRSC).
BRSC seeks to build a community that is sustainable — socially, environmentally, and economically — through education and collaboration. (You may have heard of our sister program, Southern Tier Solar Works.) BRSC, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, was formed in mid-2008 following a series of community forums on sustainability and a community visioning session.
The BRSC Board of Directors is comprised of:

About Our Funding
Because we are such a new program, Be Local Broome is currently operating on a loan from the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition.
As our program grows, we anticipate that Be Local Broome will become self-sustaining, rather than relying on grants.
We are, in essence, funded by you — by community members and independent business owners—through membership fees, donations and fundraisers.
